E-book restrictions leave 'buyers' with few rights

Unlike the owners of a physical tome, buyers of e-books are licensees with lots of limitations. It's time to change the rules. There's a crass old joke about how you can never buy beer, just rent it. Who would think that the same joke applies to book buying in the digital age?

Booktrack seeks $3 mln to fund content creation, IP patents

June 15 – Booktrack, the software company that creates soundtracks to accompany e-books, wants to raise up to $3 million to pay for new content creation and intellectual property patents.

Hollywood’s best box office years ever were 2009 and 2010. Net revenue from book sales was up 5.6 percent in 2010 from 2008. And sales of e-books, in particular, grew 1,274 percent in those two years.
